Acacia Insurance is an independent risk management firm based in Boston and licensed throughout the United States.

On the surface, we are dedicated to making the unexpected uneventful for our clients. Underneath, we are optimists driven by curiosity, passion, and an addiction to problem-solving.

Adam Ellis


Over his 30+ years in the insurance industry, Adam has helped grow the agency from a small personal lines shop to a boutique brokerage with a focus on high-net-worth personal lines and middle-market commercial clients. Adam is proud of the team we’ve assembled here at Acacia Insurance, and loves how they truly embody our core belief: make the unexpected uneventful.


A philosophy major as an insurance agency owner seems, at best, incongruous. While Kant and Hegel haven’t proved too useful in Adam’s insurance career, the passion for logic that he discovered at Gettysburg College has benefited his ability to diagnose, and solve, issues in his clients’ complex insurance portfolios.

Adam loves a challenge and brings the same passion to helping clients as he did when winning the Boston Marathon (1995, Quad division in a time of 2:02:57) and a national championship with his wheelchair rugby team. Speaking of passion, Adam has a minor obsession with photography (you might find a photo or two of his lurking around our website) and frequently uses it as an excuse to travel with his daughter, Ash.


Dan Frankel


“One of the best parts of my job is answering questions.” Dan believes that everyone has a valuable perspective and different level of interest in their insurance & financial portfolios. Every client’s question is a window to a unique challenge.

Before joining Acacia Insurance as partner and creating the Acacia Insurance Refresh in 2008, Dan held the positions of Senior Director of Retirement Income Services at Fidelity and Retirement Plan Manager at MFS Investment Management. Prior to those roles, Dan honed his problem solving skills working in the bicycle business for a decade, crossing the Atlantic on a 32’ junk rigged schooner, and working as a professional sailboat captain.

When Dan isn’t helping people figure out what insurance they have, why they need it, or how to make it more efficient, he can be found debating retirement and investment strategies with his financial team. He also enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, power-kiting and family vacations.

Dan has the luxury of being in business with one of his best friends, philosophy major Adam Ellis. Dan majored in Russian Literature at UVA and graduated cum laude from Babson’s MBA program.

Established in 1988, by Edward A. Ellis, our agency has a long, proud pedigree of experience. Together, Adam Ellis and Dan Frankel have transformed Edward’s one-man venture into a distinctive regional insurance agency with an unsurpassed focus on customer service and a consultative approach to each and every customer.

What's in a name?


“Why Acacia?” Well, as it turns out, the Acacia tree is part of a harmonious, symbiotic ecosystem; a mutually beneficial community in every way. As the tree houses and feeds colonies of insects that live in its hollow thorns, the residents reciprocate by protecting their host from threats, swarming the intruders when they feel vibrations through the tree.
